Manly 16s Club Championship heats 1, 2 Women on the Move

27th September Club Championships

September 27, 2025, marks a significant day for Georgia Clancy, who became the first female elected to the Manly 16ft Skiff Club’s board of directors. On the same day, she achieved a podium finish in the second heat of the 2025/26 club championship.

Clancy, a qualified chartered accountant and senior executive, brings 25 years of sailing experience across various classes to her new role. She expressed pride in her support from the club and a commitment to fostering growth at both Manly and St George clubs.

“I’m committed to expanding the club’s junior development and mentorship programs to cultivate the next generation of sailors and foster a lifelong passion for sailing,” Clancy stated. She emphasised the importance of creating clear progression pathways for sailors and enhancing female participation at every level.

Shortly after her appointment, Clancy joined her sister Alanna and former national champion Anthony King as the skipper of Shebang for the club championship heats. While they did not finish in the top 10 in the first race, they secured a runner-up position in the second heat, following Buckingham Marine Services, who took first place.

“Everything came together in the second race… it was great to be back on the water with my sister Alanna after nearly a season off injured,” Clancy remarked, reflecting on her performance.

In contrast, Zoe Dransfield’s Red Pumps Red had an eighth-place finish in the second heat after initially performing well in the first. Dransfield noted the difficulties they faced with their spinnaker choice, which affected their performance in the second race.

The results placed Red Pumps Red second in the overall club championship pointscore, while Buckingham Marine enjoys a lead at the top. Modern Concept Construction and Shebang follow closely behind.

In the 13s category, Buckingham Marine’s Ash Napper and Theo Franklin won heat one, but Harken, featuring Heidi Bates and Zara Marks, took victory in race two, leading to a tie atop the leaderboard.
