M32 – Rated X rises above the rest

MIAMI (March 15, 2026) — Consistency ruled the day on Biscayne Bay as Charlie Julien’s Rated X claimed victory at the March edition of the M32 Miami Winter Series. Navigating a tricky light-air regatta, the team achieved a disciplined scoreline of 4-3-2-2-2 to win the event.

In a fleet where race wins often fluctuate, Rated X maintained a strong position throughout the competition, leading to their ultimate success. Their victory was attributed to the steady performance of the team, which includes world champions Keith Swinton, Rhys Mara, Julius Hallström, and Andy Axelsson.

Miles Julien’s Youngblood finished second overall, demonstrating consistent results over the weekend. Ryan McKillen’s Surge, the reigning M32 World Champions, rounded out the podium in third place.

The weather conditions in Miami proved volatile over the weekend, leading to the cancellation of racing on both Friday and Sunday as squalls and heavy rain swept across Coconut Grove. However, a sunny window allowed the race committee to conduct five light-air races on Saturday. The variable breeze presented a tactical challenge, rewarding patience and clean manoeuvres as teams navigated the shifting pressure on the course.

The competition highlighted a compelling story for the season: a brotherly rivalry. With three events completed in the Miami Winter Series, Miles Julien’s Youngblood leads the season standings with 43 points, bolstered by a victory in January and two second-place finishes in February and March. Charlie’s recent win brings him into second place overall with 40 points, underlining their budding competition.

While Rated X and Youngblood dominated the leaderboard, other teams also demonstrated exceptional performances. Surge captured a race win, while Midtown Racing opened the day with a bullet of their own. Pursuit showcased impressive speed with two consecutive race wins, and Dingbat remained competitive with consistent finishes.

This weekend marked the return of Håkan Svensson’s Cape Crow Vikings, who expressed enthusiasm about returning to Miami racing and the upcoming World Championship in Newport.

Off the water, the M32 fleet hosted a youth night at Shake-A-Leg Miami, offering local sailors a chance to engage with professionals from SailGP and M32. This initiative helped bridge the gap between junior sailing and professional circuits, with young attendees excited about the art of sailing and the various roles involved in racing.

Looking ahead, the Miami Winter Series will conclude with its finale on April 17-19, before the fleet heads to Newport, Rhode Island, for a summer filled with racing. Events will include one-design fleet racing, casual Pro-Am Thursday night beercan racing, and coastal around-the-island racing.
