BYRA has initiated a unique boat building program culminating in the launch of 9 new wooden boats, built by the kids themselves! Northbridge Juniors were selected due to their size, ease of construction, cost, and sailing performance. Here is some information about the scheme and its progress.
On behalf of Bayview Yacht Racing Association (BYRA), the official launch of the 2026 BYRA Northbridge Junior Boatbuilding Program is scheduled for Sunday, 13 September 2026.

This special event will celebrate the achievements of families who have spent weeks constructing their own Northbridge Junior sailing dinghies from the ground up.
The program is about much more than building boats. It brings families together, develops practical skills, confidence, and teamwork, and provides an affordable pathway into sailing and ongoing participation within the BYRA community.
Run Schedule:
10:30 am – Guest arrival and refreshments
11:00 am – Official welcome and opening
11:05 am – Northbridge Junior Boatbuilding Program overview
11:15 am – Recognition of participating families, volunteers, supporters, and partners
11:20 am – Official boat naming and launch ceremony
11:30 am – Northbridge Juniors take to the water
11:30 am – 1:00 pm – NJ sailing in front of the clubhouse, with guests invited to watch the new boats sailing from the BYRA deck while enjoying refreshments
1:00 pm – Lunch
The launch will also provide an opportunity to recognise the volunteers, supporters, and partners whose contributions have made this program possible.
