An International Jury has awarded Team Holcim-PRB redress for Leg 1 of The Ocean Race Europe, following a collision with Allagrande Mapei Racing shortly after the race commenced in Kiel, Germany.
Both teams were forced to retire from Leg 1 due to the incident. The Jury decided that Holcim-PRB’s finishing position for Leg 1 will be set to its average finishing position from legs 2 to 5, thus allowing them to score points that reflect their overall performance throughout the race.
Alan Roberts, representing Holcim-PRB, expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating it will enable the team to focus on future races without the burden of the incident affecting their standing. The points for Leg 1 will be updated after each subsequent leg, establishing a more accurate portrayal of the team’s performance.
Roberts highlighted the importance of this decision for the team’s morale and performance, while Ambrogio Beccaria, the skipper of Allagrande Mapei Racing, acknowledged the ruling, albeit with disappointment, indicating a desire to concentrate on the upcoming legs towards Montenegro.
The Jury’s hearing took place during a stopover in Cartagena, Spain, with a panel comprising qualified International Jurors and Umpires from various countries. This ensures that the decision-making process adheres to international standards.
As the competition continues, both teams are now poised to focus their energies on the remaining legs of the race.
