They’ve done it again. The CYCA team of Cole Tapper, Hamish Vass, and Jack Frewin are now back-to-back Governor’s Cup champions.
As reigning title holders, the pressure was on, but the trio kept their composure and battled their way to the final in Newport Beach, where they secured a commanding 3–1 win over their American rivals, led by Justin Callahan.
In the midst of well-deserved celebrations, Tapper reflected on an incredible week of sailing.
“We had an amazing week at the Governor’s Cup,” Tapper said. “We’re so grateful to have our coach, Jordan Reece, here to lift our performance and to help us finish on a high.
“Thank you to the CYCA for your ongoing support in our sailing endeavours. We are so stoked to win for the Club. And thank you to my crew members, Jack and Hamish, for getting us over the line.”
The Governor’s Cup is recognised as the most prestigious youth match racing regatta in the world, and to win it twice is an extraordinary achievement. Congratulations to Cole and crew – they’ve done the CYCA, and Australian sailing, immensely proud.
