Fremantle Sailing Club selected to host 420 Worlds in 2017

In July this year, the General Assembly of the International 420 Class Association (held in Karatsu, Japan), announced that the Fremantle Sailing Club had won the bid to host the 2017 International 420 Class World, Ladies World and U17 World Championships.

Nino Shmueli, President of the International 420 Class Association has officially announced the dates of the 420 World Championships as 15-23 December 2017. The Warm-Up event, will be held from 12-14 December at Fremantle Sailing Club, in conjunction with the WA and the International 420 Class Association.

“2017 will mark the second time in the history of the 420 Class that the World Championships have been hosted in Fremantle,” commented Nino Shmueli.  “Fremantle has a renowned sailing and event pedigree and we are delighted to return twenty-two years after the 420 Worlds were last hosted in this iconic sailing venue. Sailors from around the world who descend on Fremantle are guaranteed to enjoy world class racing and a unique opportunity to discover Australia’s history and culture.”

Teams from over twenty nations are expected to compete, with online entry opening in January 2017 on the 420 World Championships website via www.420sailing.org.

The 420 World Championships will kick off with three days of registration and equipment inspection, followed by a 12 race qualifying and final series from 18-23 December.
