Five winners from six races at halfway stage of 44Cup Puntaldia

The second day of the 44Cup Puntaldia saw a much more moderated breeze, allowing teams to navigate the course with an 8-12 knot northerly wind, compared to the previous day’s chaotic conditions.

Black Star Sailing Team, helmed by Christian Zuerrer, made a stunning comeback after a disappointing first day, which had seen them miss two races due to a broken mast. In their first race of the day, they secured a compelling victory with a strong start and excellent tactical execution. Tactician Cameron Dunn praised their performance, highlighting their good speed and timing that allowed them to gain crucial positions on the course.

The second race showcased Charisma, helmed by Nico Poons, who won after edging out Aleph Racing and Wow! Sailing Team in a competitive tussle. Poons’ tactician, Andy Horton, commented on the strong performance and awarded their earlier second place finish as one of the best races they had sailed recently.

In the final race, conditions shifted with the wind easing and shifting to the east. The GeMera Sailing Team surged ahead after a strong start, eventually claiming victory with favourable conditions, as discussed by their tactician Francesco Bruni.

Overall, the day concluded with Charisma leading the day with nine points, closely followed by Team Nika, Black Star Sailing Team, and Aleph Racing, all achieving tight scores of ten points. The Turkish team, Wow! Sailing Team, also made notable progress, achieving their best finishes yet amid stiff competition.

Racing will continue tomorrow with predictions of another promising day, showing a southward shift in the wind.
