Finn Sailing is sailing at its finest

Finn sailing is experiencing a momentous return to Brisbane, Australia, as the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron hosts multiple prestigious events over three weeks from 7 to 27 February. This gathering marks a significant revival in the Finn Class community after years of anticipation and planning.

The Australian Championship kicks off the series, boasting a record 80 entries, with six races scheduled from 7 to 10 February. This event features a strong competition with notable past champions such as Rob McMillan, John Condie, Rafa Trujillo, Anthony Nossiter, and Brendan Casey. Following this, the Finn Gold Cup will take place from 12 to 19 February, attracting 20 Australian sailors set to compete against 46 international entries, including sailors from New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, and The Netherlands. Additionally, the Gold Cup will incorporate the Finn Silver Cup for under-29 competitors.

On the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Gold Cup held in Brisbane, previous winners Rafa Trujillo and Thomas Schmid will be making their presence felt, while world-class competitors like World No.1 Laurent Hay from France and the current European champion Valerian Lebrun will also vie for glory. The event anticipates intense competition across the board, further boosted by entries from past top finishers.

The concluding segment of the event lineup is the Finn World Masters, scheduled from 20 to 27 February, marking its inaugural occurrence in the Southern Hemisphere, and only the third time outside Europe. With currently 107 entries, including 48 Australians, this is proving to be the main event for many participants.

Races for the Nationals and Masters will be primarily contested in the sheltered waters of Waterloo Bay, while the Gold Cup promises challenging conditions in the exposed Moreton Bay areas, crucial for a world championship setting.

This spectacular sequence of events is proudly presented by Porsche Centre Brisbane, aligning perfectly with the high stakes of Finn sailing and the commitment to excellence.
