The 2026 Winter Interclub Series concludes this Sunday at Hunters Hill Sailing Club, featuring 120 Optimist sailors from across Sydney in one of the largest junior sailing events of the winter season.
For over 60 years, Hunters Hill Sailing Club has introduced generations of young sailors to the sport. Located on the Parramatta River, it is renowned as one of Sydney’s leading volunteer-run sailing clubs, thanks to the dedication of its members, volunteers, and families.
The Winter Interclub Series has become an essential part of the junior sailing calendar, offering regular races that foster skill development, confidence, and sportsmanship in a fun, safe, and affordable environment.
Racing this Sunday will occur across three fleets:
– Optimist Open Fleet
– Optimist Intermediate Fleet
– Optimist Green Fleet
The series is a collaborative effort involving Hunters Hill Sailing Club, Woollahra Sailing Club, and Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. This partnership has established a strong volunteer-based model that shares race management, safety resources, and coaching support, ensuring consistent racing opportunities throughout the winter season.
The final round signifies the culmination of another successful Winter Interclub Series and highlights the ongoing strength and growth of Optimist sailing across Sydney. The organising clubs express their heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers, race officials, coaches, parents, and sailors whose commitment has made the series possible.
The organisers also acknowledge the generous support from sponsors: NB Sailsports, BoatCrewGear.com, Rooster, Vaikobi, White Bay 6 Marine Park, Ronstan, and North Sails. Their continued support creates valuable opportunities for young sailors and contributes to the success of junior sailing across New South Wales.
