SailGP has announced the winners of the Impact League for the 2025 Season, with the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team (Emirates GBR) achieving victory for the second consecutive year. This championship celebrates teams’ positive actions both on and off the water, focusing on their social and environmental impact along with sporting performance.
After a rigorous evaluation process involving 48 project submissions and 20 judges, Emirates GBR excelled across all four Focus Area challenges, which included initiatives for Race to Zero Waste, Accelerating Inclusion, Climate Action, and Breaking Boundaries. Their efforts resulted in significant developments, including the growth of their Young Development programme that secured a full-time position for athlete Kai Hockley within the team. They also engaged over 250,000 young people through climate education in partnership with Goodwall.
Emirates GBR’s CEO, Sir Ben Ainslie, expressed pride in the team’s achievements, highlighting expanded partnerships aimed at increasing youth participation in the marine industry and promoting STEM education.
Mubadala Brazil, featuring the Rolex SailGP Championship’s first female driver, Martine Grael, achieved a remarkable second place overall in the Impact League. Their initiatives included restoration projects in Pombeba Island and climate adaptation efforts in local communities, demonstrating an impactful debut season in the league.
NorthStar Canada secured third place, with the team celebrated for their local engagements and success in the Climate Action challenge, where they planted 2,000 eelgrass shoots in collaboration with local sailors and scientists.
SailGP’s Chief Purpose Officer, Fiona Morgan, praised Emirates GBR’s consistency and leadership in achieving meaningful change, setting an inspiring example of integrating purpose with performance.
As the teams prepare for the upcoming Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix (November 29-30), Emirates GBR is in a strong position to pursue both the Impact League trophy and the grand prize of US $2 million, awarded at the season finale.
