30 October 2025: The Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) is set to launch its annual ‘See You Out There’ campaign on 1 November, inviting Australians to experience the freedom, connection, and wellbeing that comes from spending time on the water.
BIA CEO Andrew Fielding stated, “Boating is one of Australia’s great outdoor pastimes, with something to offer everyone – from relaxed paddling and family fishing trips to sailing and powerboating adventures. Australians have a natural affinity with the water and boating brings people together, encourages outdoor activity, and delivers proven mental and physical health benefits,” he noted. “Research shows that being on or near the water can reduce stress, boost happiness and enhance overall wellbeing. It’s a chance to disconnect from screens, connect with loved ones, and enjoy our great outdoors.”
With more than 85 per cent of Australians living within 50 kilometres of the coast, boating continues to be one of the nation’s favourite leisure activities. Nearly one in five Australian households own a boat or watercraft. Key statistics from BIA reveal that:
- 1 in 10 people have a boat licence
- Over 900,000 boats are registered
- Approximately 900,000 additional craft, like small sail and paddle craft, are not required to be registered
- 10 per cent of registered vessels are personal watercraft, the fastest-growing segment
- 67 per cent of boats are under 6 metres
- 49 per cent of boating trips are for fishing
The upcoming campaign aims to inspire both newcomers and seasoned boaters to capitalise on Australia’s waterways, showcasing how time spent on the water, whether for sport, relaxation, or family fun, can create lasting memories and strengthen bonds. “Boating is inclusive, accessible, and good for you,” Fielding added. “It doesn’t matter your age, experience, or budget – there’s a way for everyone to enjoy life on the water.”
Club Marine CEO Tim Wiles expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its role in inspiring Australians to enjoy being on the water while aligning with their commitment to fostering the boating community.
BIA is also collaborating with dry stack storage providers to promote the benefits of their services, with a dedicated program launching soon as part of the campaign. Last year, the campaign reached 7.5 million viewers on TV, recorded 7 million digital impressions and over 3 million video views. The 2025 campaign aims to attract new audiences with a call to action of “Adventure Awaits. See You Out There.”
The campaign will run across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania until 15 February 2026, supported by Century Batteries, GMSV, Club Marine, and the Boating Industry Association of Victoria. It will feature on television, digital channels, and BIA’s own marketing platforms.
