452.22 miles in 24 hours – Belgium Ocean Racing breaks the Class40 24-hours record

FLASH NEWS : 452.22 MILES IN 24 HOURS:

BELGIUM OCEAN RACING has set a new world record for the Class40 24-hour distance on the GLOBE40 with an impressive average speed of 18.84 knots. This remarkable achievement was made by the Belgian team led by Jonas Gerckens, alongside Benoit Hantzperg and Renaud Dehareng, during the second leg of the GLOBE40. The previous record of 440.2 miles was established in July 2024 by Guillaume Pirouelle (SOGESTRAN – SEAFRIGO). The team set sail on October 2 from Mindelo in Cape Verde aboard Class40 No. 187 (a Lift V2 Lombard design model), navigating towards the Brazilian coast to avoid the St Helena High before heading to the Cape of Good Hope, ultimately aiming for Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. The record was logged today at 04:30 UTC, and there may be more to come…
