Australian Sailing Team takes aim at plastic pollution

The Australian Sailing Team (AST) is proud to announce our new partnership with Cheeki, an Australian brand of stainless steel water bottles and lifestyle products which will become the Team’s official hydration supplier.

The company ticked two major boxes for the team’s preparation for the Games; It will provide quality products to keep the AST cool and hydrated and is keeping with Australian Sailing’s efforts to reduce single-use plastic as a sport and organisation.

“We approached Cheeki looking for quality products to keep the athletes cool while competing,” Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston said. “With the AST wanting to reduce plastic, a partnership was the perfect fit.”

The company was established in 2009 in Sydney becoming the first brand of stainless steel water bottles in Australia, with the ambitious goal of eliminating single-use plastic containers with quality stainless steel alternatives.

Founder and Director, Simon Karlik, is very excited about the new partnership with the AST, not only to help to the team to win Gold but also to work with sailing as a whole to help reduce plastic use and plastic pollution in our oceans.

“Cheeki is all about providing healthy, quality hydration and I’m really excited to have Cheeki keeping the team cool and hydrated on their road to Gold in Japan later this year.” Said Karlik.

The company was founded on the idea of eliminating single-use plastic food and beverage containers in an effort to reduce plastic waste and polluting our beautiful oceans.

“World Sailing has put an ambitious plan in place with the UN’s Clean Seas program and we are very much looking forward in helping Australian Sailing follow suit in providing a cleaner, plastic-free playground,” Karlik said.

Australian Sailing mirrors Karlik’s vision for the future of the partnership, looking to work together in both the performance and the sustainability aspects of the sport.
