Australia announces team for the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships

Australian Sailing has announced the sailors who will represent Australia at the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships (YSWC) in Vilamoura, Portugal from 12-20 December 2025.

The YSWC features young sailors from around the world competing in 11 events across male, female, and mixed categories. This regatta provides participants with vital exposure to international competition, allowing them to develop their skills in a high-level environment while proudly representing their country.

Selection Process

The 2025 Australian Youth Sailing Team was selected through a series of regattas held across the country:

  • (Formula Kite Class) – Zhik YouthSail QLD
  • (International 420 Class) – Zhik YouthSail SA
  • (29er, Nacra 15, IQ Youth, ILCA 6 Classes) – Zhik YouthSail NSW

After these events, a selection panel assessed the sailors and extended offers to the successful candidates. All selected sailors have now confirmed their participation.

The Youth Sailing World Championships provides a unique opportunity for young sailors to experience international competition and learn in a global context. For many, it represents an important stage in their personal and sailing development, helping them build skills, confidence, and resilience in an international environment.
Selection to the Australian team recognises a sailor’s readiness for this level of experience. While the regatta is a prestigious event, the emphasis remains on learning, growth, and representing Australia with pride.
This year’s Australian representatives will be self-funding their attendance and are seeking support to help make their participation possible. Attending the event involves significant costs, including travel, coaching, logistics, and entry fees.

Support for the team can be made through tax-deductible donations via the Australian Sports Foundation here, with all contributions going directly to the team’s expenses. Donations will be pooled and distributed equally across the team to alleviate individual financial burdens.

Congratulations to all selected athletes as they prepare for their journey to Vilamoura in December.
