AMAALA Yacht Club has announced a strategic partnership with the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) and the Women’s World Match Racing Tour (WWMRT), highlighting the Red Sea’s potential as a premier sailing destination. This collaboration will see AMAALA host the season finales for both tours in a multi-year agreement commencing December 2026, marking a significant first for the WMRT in the Middle East.
This partnership not only solidifies AMAALA’s reputation as a venue for elite competition but also underlines a commitment to the development of sailing talent in the region. For the first time, the prize money for the finals of both the Open and Women’s Tours will be equalised, reflecting a shared dedication to excellence and equity in the sport.
James Pleasance, Executive Director of the tours, expressed gratitude towards AMAALA Yacht Club for their vision and commitment, describing the partnership as a major milestone and a chance to foster future champions through meaningful development pathways. The club offers exceptional sailing conditions and facilities conducive to performance and growth in the sport.
In preparation for the 2026 Finale, WMRT will initiate workshops and training programmes aimed at nurturing emerging sailors and race officials. This initiative aligns with AMAALA Yacht Club’s broader mission focusing on education and skills enhancement to promote sailing in the area.
Adrian Peet, General Manager of AMAALA Yacht Club, stated that this partnership encompasses more than just hosting finals; it serves as a platform to enhance yachting along the Red Sea while contributing positively to global sailing. The WMRT’s focus on high-level racing and development supports the club’s vision of nurturing talent and providing a sustainable competitive environment.
The announcement also reinforces AMAALA’s significance within the international sailing community, with the confirmation that it will host the 2027 Ocean Race, one of the most prestigious events in offshore sailing. The club is establishing a comprehensive yachting season backed by top-tier infrastructure, a members-only yacht club, and a commitment to stewardship and legacy.
The WMRT and WWMRT Finals will kick off the annual AMAALA Yachting Season, which will include a wide array of international regattas, offshore races, superyacht gatherings, and development programmes in succession.
