The 29er Class has decided to implement an entry allocation system for the World Championships in 2026, reflecting the anticipated popularity of the event in Kiel. Historically, there have been no restrictions on entries for the World or European Championships, making this decision significant.
The allocation method will take the higher number of entries from either the 2025 World or European Championships for each country. Each nation will secure a minimum of three entries, while countries that did not participate in 2025 may apply for up to three entries in 2026. Additionally, the host nation will receive 10 entries, alongside their allocated number. The 2025 World Champions will also gain individual entries, which are not transferable.
This system aims to accommodate approximately 320 boats, although the final number may vary depending on individual country decisions regarding their allocations. The organising committee will not replace any unclaimed spots, adhering to a reduced target of 270 boats across six fleets and three racing areas. Countries declining their allocation will not be allowed to transfer their spots and must notify the class of their decision, with strict penalties for violations. The rules set forth by World Sailing regarding nationality will be rigorously enforced.
Each National Class Association is responsible for selecting their representatives for the Kiel Championships. Entries will be managed through the OurClubAdmin entry system, where each country will receive entry codes in accordance to their allocations, facilitating the entry process for teams. Further details about the entry process will be shared closer to the event date.
The entry window for the World Championship will open on 1st February and close on 30th April 2026. However, there will be no entry restrictions for the European Championships taking place in Lipno.
