Pittwater was filled with Bavaria yachts, lederhosen and Oktoberfest celebrations on Saturday 10 October, as Sydney Marine Brokerage brought owners and crews together at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) for a day of sailing, racing and socialising.
Bavaria Oktoberfest – Results
1. Razzmatazz – Michael & Rebecca Schaffler (Bavaria 47 Ocean)
2. Midlife – Michael & Joanne Jones (Bavaria 43 Cruiser)
3. Floki – Scott Turner (Bavaria 42 Cruiser)
Best Dressed: Meri Tuuli – Chris Hammond (Bavaria 45 Cruiser)
A fleet of 14 Bavaria yachts took part in a race around Lion Island, with a mix of newer models and established favourites enjoying the light conditions and sunshine. Many crews embraced the Oktoberfest theme, dressing in traditional Bavarian attire for the occasion.
Among the participating yachts were the Bavaria C46 and C57, both recently commissioned and delivered to their new owners by Sydney Marine Brokerage.
The event brought together owners of different generations of Bavaria yachts, highlighting the strong community that has developed around the brand in Australia.
Andrew Withers, Dealer and Principal of Sydney Marine Brokerage, said the gathering was an opportunity to celebrate that community.
“One of the best things about Bavaria is the community that comes with owning one of these boats. Seeing so many owners out on Pittwater, from those who’ve had their Bavarias for years to those who’ve only just taken delivery, was fantastic.
“It’s exactly why we wanted to bring everyone together, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.”
Close racing around Lion Island
Despite the light breeze, competition was close in the Bavaria Division, with less than a minute separating the first three boats on corrected time.
Michael and Rebecca Schaffler took victory aboard their Bavaria 47 Ocean, Razzmatazz, ahead of Michael and Joanne Jones sailing Midlife, a Bavaria 43 Cruiser.
Scott Turner completed the podium aboard Floki, a Bavaria 42 Cruiser.
Oktoberfest celebrations ashore
Following the racing, owners and crews returned to RPAYC for an afternoon of traditional German food, music and celebrations.
The club provided an Oktoberfest feast featuring pretzels, pork knuckles and spit-roasted pork, accompanied by German beer served in commemorative Bavaria Oktoberfest steins.
A live German band entertained the gathering, with games and dancing adding to the festivities.
The relaxed atmosphere gave owners an opportunity to catch up, meet fellow Bavaria sailors and exchange stories about their boats and cruising experiences.
Celebrating the Bavaria community
The event was organised by Sydney Marine Brokerage to bring Bavaria owners together both on and off the water.
The brokerage thanked RPAYC for hosting the event, along with sponsors and supporters Club Marine, Douglas Marine, OneSails and Koreman Marine Composites.
With close racing, enthusiastic participation and a lively Oktoberfest celebration, the gathering provided an enjoyable opportunity for Bavaria owners and their crews to share their enthusiasm for sailing.
Sydney Marine Brokerage is already looking forward to bringing the fleet together again for another event.
