The Kitchen Maker 2026-27 season brings back three regular competitors to the 18s after a two-year hiatus for family commitments. Jordan Girdis (skipper), Josh Feldmann (sheet), and Jacob Broom (bow) will reunite as a team, having previously sailed together on the Fisher & Paykel skiff during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
This season marks Girdis’ return to The Kitchen Maker sponsorship, a role he held for three seasons between 2018-19 and 2020-21. For Darren McKavanagh, the owner of The Kitchen Maker, this will be his 17th consecutive season sponsoring a boat in the Australian 18 Footers League, a journey that began in 2001.
Throughout the past sixteen seasons, The Kitchen Maker has supported numerous notable skippers, including Brett Van Munster, Cameron McDonald, and Malcolm Page, among others. A highlight of this sponsorship was the NSW Championship victory in the 2017-18 season.
Girdis expressed excitement about returning to the water, noting that the time off has reignited their passion for skiff sailing. The trio is now a larger team, each having welcomed baby girls during their break, which they look forward to celebrating as a family during races.
Reuniting with McKavanagh, Girdis stated, “The Kitchen Maker is synonymous with 18 footer sailing on Sydney Harbour, and we are grateful to fly the flag once again with Darren’s support.”
Girdis, who also serves as Commodore of the Australian 18 Footers League, remarked on the influx of young talent joining the fleet this season, enhancing the competition. He expects an exciting year ahead, with both new and experienced sailors competing vigorously.
Regarding their prospects against the strong, youthful fleet, Girdis mentioned, “We intend to give the young competitive teams a run for their money – especially on those up range days.”
McKavanagh shared his love for the sport and enthusiasm for the team’s return, stating, “It’s great to have the experience of Jordan, Josh and Jacob back in the boat after taking a break to focus on their young families. They’re talented and experienced, and I’m looking forward to watching them race this season.”
The Kitchen Maker team is set to continue its legacy in the 2026-27 season, blending experience with fresh energy in the competitive 18 Footers League.
