Palma Vela Regatta – Day 3

The 22nd Sandberg Estates Palma Vela regatta on the Bay of Palma featured perfect sailing conditions with consistent winds ranging from 12 to 16 knots, prompting favourable feedback from participating teams headed back to the Real Club Nautical de Palma.

James Neville’s Ino Veritas, a new TP52, remains undefeated in ORC Class 0 with five wins out of six races, thus clinching the regatta title before the final day. Tactician Dean Barker expressed satisfaction with their performance, emphasizing the importance of training and tuning the new boat for future events, particularly the upcoming Sardinia Cup which is vital for the Admiral’s Cup.

Naval strategist Aksel Magdahl commented on the successful debut of their Carkeek 40 Nola, which also secured ORC Class 1 victory early in the competition. Nola’s performance shows promise as they prepare for the Admiral’s Cup after extensive training sessions prior to the event.

In the TP52 category, Pieter Heerema’s No Way Back dominated by securing a first and second in the latest races, leveraging their experience from previous seasons. Navigator Michele Ivaldi highlighted their strategic approach to racing, focusing on maintaining clean air and speed.

Sam Albrecht on Crioula demonstrated significant skill, placing the boat consistently in the top ranks. Albrecht highlighted the confidence drawn from extensive training and competition in the area, indicating familiarity with the local conditions.

Looking ahead, the forecast suggests light and unpredictable winds, creating uncertainty for the final day of racing. With an exciting lineup and various classes still contested, all eyes will be on how the crews adapt to the expected conditions.

The next race day promises to be full of challenges as teams strategise to maintain their standings and clinch titles across multiple classes.
