Warren Jones International Youth Regatta Day 3

Perth, Western Australia, 29th January 2026

Dane Matias Rossing emerged as the standout performer on day three of the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta, advancing through the competition from the final round robin stage into the semi-finals. After a cautious start with two wins on the first day and four more victories the next, he demonstrated exceptional skill in the latest races.

In the last heat of the round robin, Rossing claimed a significant victory as the first skipper to defeat Marcello Torre in the series. Following this, he advanced in the quarter-finals by eliminating New Zealand’s Josh Hyde with a score of 3 – 1, and then took a commanding 2 – 0 lead in the semi-finals against defending champion Cole Tapper from Sydney’s Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.

Celebrating his achievements with high fives from coach Luke Payne, Rossing remarked, “It has taken us time to learn the boats and to learn to work together as a crew. We have never all sailed together.” His team has quickly developed into a cohesive unit, marked by quick spinnaker hoists, efficient tacks, and sharp tactical decisions.

The semi-finals are structured as a first to three points series, putting Rossing on match point, while Torre and Daniel Kemp are currently tied at one point each. With light winds predicted for the morning of the final day, the outcome remains uncertain, as the semi-finals are set to conclude before lunch, aiming for a seabreeze for the finals.

Other quarter-final matches progressed smoothly, with Torre defeating Zac West, Tapper overcoming Ethan Fong, and Kemp beating Ben Crafoord, all with a clear 3 – 0 result.
