Brest, France – January 24, 2026
The eight women in The Famous Project CIC team are on day 56 of their race and are nearing the conclusion of a non-stop round-the-world sailing voyage, navigating challenges including gear failures and the loss of their mainsail. As they face storm Ingrid, they are poised to reach the finish in Brest late on Monday.
Their goal is historic: to achieve a non-stop circumnavigation of the globe on a multihull as no all-female crew has done this yet. Co-founders Alexia Barrier from France and a crew of experienced sailors, including Britain’s Dee Caffari—entering her seventh circumnavigation—alongside Deborah Blair, Annemieke Bes from the Netherlands, Rebecca Gmür Hornell, the Swiss New Zealander, Spain’s Tamara Echegoyen, Australian Stacey Jackson, and Italian American Molly LaPoint, are pushing through to the finish.
With only 800 miles left, the crew must secure their multihull trimaran IDEC SPORT while contending with storm conditions. Dee Caffari remarked on the difficulties they face, especially with a torn mainsail and malfunctioning equipment. Despite this, the crew remains determined to finish the race.
“If it were easy, everyone would do it!” Caffari said, highlighting the challenge ahead. The mainsail has been torn and is unserviceable, creating significant hurdles for the crew as they proceed toward Brest.
“Last night went well, and we’re being tossed about a bit… so, we’re doing all we can on board and making steady progress,” said Alexia Barrier, echoing the crew’s commitment to reach their goal.
