Strong Jeanneau Sun Fast line up for the 80th Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

The 80th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will showcase six entries from the Jeanneau Sun Fast fleet, with four participating in the growing double-handed division. The Sun Fast models have established a strong reputation for offshore performance, making them a popular choice for those aiming for success in this challenging race.

Two fully crewed Sun Fast 3600s will compete: “Wyuna”, skippered by Hilary Arthure from Western Australia, and “Gizmo”, led by Australian expat Marc Michel. Both teams aim to leverage the 3600’s proven capabilities in diverse offshore conditions.

In the double-handed division, Victorian offshore veteran Rod Smallman collaborates with Alex Toomey on “Beautemps”, despite limited experience with this specific vessel. Meanwhile, Hobart local Jean-Pierre Ravanet will co-skipper “Hip-Nautic” with Dylan Gore, bringing valuable past experience to their campaign.

Andy Offord and UK 3300 owner Ian Hoddle will race “Borderline”, with a shared aim to maximise the Sun Fast 3300 design’s full potential across the 628 nautical mile course. Edward Curry-Hyde will join Lincoln Dews on “Toucan”, building on a strong finish in the 2022 double-handed division and recently victorious in the Cabbage Tree Island Race.

The confidence these sailors place in the Jeanneau Sun Fast range highlights its status as a leading production offshore racing platform. Sun Fast models have claimed podium finishes in significant offshore events globally, including Fastnet, Transquadra, and Middle Sea Race, alongside the Sydney Hobart.

Performance Boating Sales Director Lee Condell, a seasoned offshore and double-handed sailor, remarked on the depth of talent among this year’s participants. “The Jeanneau Sun Fast range has always focused on reliable offshore speed that rewards skill and teamwork,” he stated. “It’s encouraging to see so many prepared campaigns for this milestone 80th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.”

Performance Boating Sales wishes all Sun Fast crews a safe and successful race.
