Strong Winds Bring Racing to an Early End as World Champions Are Crowned
The fifth and final day of the 2026 Tornado World Championship in Quiberon was brought to an early close as strong winds exceeding 30 knots swept across the race area, making racing unsafe.
After monitoring the conditions throughout the morning, the Race Committee abandoned all scheduled races, bringing the championship to a conclusion with the results standing as they were at the end of Day 4.
Overall Championship
With no further racing possible, Markus Betz and Nicolas Betz (GER 2) were confirmed as the 2026 Tornado World Champions. The German team moved into the overall lead on Day 4 after a superb series of races and held a narrow advantage to secure the title.
The Czech mixed crew Zdenek Pavlis and Klara Pavlisova (CZE 62) finished as World Championship runners-up, only 3.2 points behind the winners after an outstanding and remarkably consistent regatta.
Australia’s Allan Gamble and Stephen Gamble completed the overall podium in third place, while Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis (CZE 72) finished fourth overall.
Mixed World Championship
The Mixed World Championship title was claimed by Zdenek Pavlis and Klara Pavlisova (CZE 62), whose second-place finish overall highlighted an exceptional week of sailing.
Second in the Mixed category were Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis (CZE 72), while Jan Coppens and Marie Coppens (BEL 7) completed the Mixed podium after another consistent championship.
A Championship to Remember
Although the final day offered no racing, the championship had already delivered four days of highly competitive action across twelve races 35′ races.
