2025 ILCA 6 Youth Worlds in Los Angeles – Day 2

San Pedro, Los Angeles, USA | August 1, 2025.

Day 2 of the 2025 ILCA 6 Youth World Championships brought another exciting chapter both on and off the water, as sailors arrived early, full of energy and anticipation for the second day of racing.

The day began once again with a coaches meeting at 10:30, where the Race Committee addressed timing between starts, rule infringements, and the daily plan. Two races were scheduled for all fleets, though a stubborn layer of thick fog over Cabrillo Beach and Los Angeles delayed the arrival of the sea breeze, prompting an AP ashore at 11:30.

Sailors passed the time by socialising, snacking, and resting in the event tent, out of the sun. At around 13:00, the AP flag was lowered as conditions looked more promising, and sailors launched promptly. However, with the breeze still slow to build and shifting unpredictably, an on-the-water postponement lasted until 14:30.

When racing finally got underway, conditions settled at 6–10 knots with small waves of 1–2 feet. The Girls’ fleets started first on the outer course, followed by the Boys on the inner course. The yellow women’s fleet managed a clean start, while the blue fleet needed a few general recalls before getting away. Similarly, the boys’ fleets had their share of recalls before racing properly began.

Ahead of the second race, the Race Committee adjusted the course to ensure fairness, and by then the breeze had strengthened to a steady 10–12 knots, providing excellent conditions to close the day’s programme.

Both scheduled races were completed successfully, with sailors returning to shore in the late afternoon, where they were welcomed with pizza – a fitting end to another long day at Cabrillo Beach.

Today marks the final day of the qualifying series, with six races expected in total before the fleets divide into gold and silver. With two more races on the schedule, anticipation is building for another day of close competition. Stay tuned for more racing action later today!

With four races now completed, the leaderboards are beginning to take shape. Here’s how the standings look after Day 2 across the Girls’ and Boys’ Championships;
