2025 Beneteau Cup

The 2025 Beneteau Cup on Sydney Harbour offered a delightful experience both on and off the water. The event marked a significant milestone, celebrating 30 years since the inaugural Beneteau Cup that brought joy to sailors, visitors, and sponsors alike. Participants gathered at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia for a briefing, setting the stage for a memorable weekend.

This year’s event returned to its original two-day format, featuring the Beneteau First Experience event, where attendees could inspect five different models from the First series. This included the First 53, First 44, First 36, First 27, and the latest First 30, helmed by renowned sailor Wendy Tuck, who also shared insights into her foundation’s youth sailing initiatives.

The atmosphere was enhanced by a pep talk from Olympic Silver Medallist Olivia Price, who inspired participants with her discussion on teamwork and sportsmanship. Price helmed the First 44, Lenny, with 10-time J.J. Giltinan winner Seve Jarvin joining for the second race, adding star power to the crew.

Race day featured fantastic sailing conditions with a mild Nor’easter and sunny skies, creating an ideal backdrop for the 26-boat fleet. Vessels varied from the 50-foot Silver Cloud to the 27-foot Blizzard, showcasing crafts aged from 40 years to just three months old. Bob Swan’s Elusive Spirit, a regular at Beneteau Cups, and the stylish new First 30 highlighted this diversity.

In the non-Spinnaker Division, Currawong, helmed by Uwe Roehm, secured first place, followed by Firefox and Moondance. The Spinnaker Division saw a vibrant display with GWM Pennant Hills leading the charge. Jason Neuhaus’ First 35, Crowded Haus, took the win, with Tea for the Tillerman and Bombolo following closely. Special recognition went to Howard Piggott’s Silver Cloud III for its impressive performance. Flagstaff Marine Director Micah Lane reflected on the day, recalling past events and the jubilant atmosphere among the owners and crews. He expressed gratitude to the sponsors for helping elevate the experience, noting their contributions as essential to the event’s success.

Looking forward, preparations for next year’s cup are already in motion, with excitement building for the upcoming Beneteau Pittwater Regatta in May 2026.
