18ft Skiffs – 2026-27 season preview

The Australian 18 Footers League’s 2026-27 season begins next Sunday (October 11) with Race 1 of the annual SIXT Spring Championship. This upcoming season promises to be one of the most exciting yet, featuring a mix of top young sailing talent alongside experienced teams competing in high-quality equipment.

Key championship events scheduled for Sydney Harbour include:
– SIXT Spring Championship: October 11-November 15
– NSW Championship: November 22-December 20
– Australian Championship: January 29-31
– JJ Giltinan World Championship: February 27-March 7

Additionally, the 18-race MONDIALE VGL Season Point Score and 9-race Club Championship will run throughout the season, rewarding the most consistent performers since teams cannot discard any of their worst results.

For spectators, the Royale spectator ferry will follow the racing, departing from Double Bay Wharf at 2:15pm, allowing patrons to enjoy the views while enjoying drinks and snacks aboard. This tradition has been a staple of Sydney’s sailing culture since 1935.

For those unable to board the ferry, the SailMedia Livestream team will provide coverage on the course, featuring three cameras, including a drone and a commentary team POV camera, ensuring viewers will not miss any of the action.
