Philippe Briand SY200 superyacht concept delivers a true zero emissions sailing experience

  • The SY200 is the latest concept project from Philippe Briand.
  • The equivalent power harnessed by the SY200’s sails is calculated to be 2,000kW, in optimum wind conditions.
  • The SY200 would capture some of this kinetic energy through the movement of underwater turbines while sailing.
  • The yacht would generate 500kW when sailing at 15 knots and 200kW at 12 knots, which would be sufficient to meet the onboard power demands of the hotel and manoeuvring systems while under sail.
  • Philippe Briand’s motivation for designing the SY200 was to create a yacht that discharged zero emissions when travelling from port to port.
  • Energy stored in the 20-tonne onboard battery bank would allow the yacht to be silently powered while at anchor.
  • In order to achieve such impressive power generation while under sail, Philippe Briand’s renowned naval architecture expertise has been used to full effect through his high-performance hull design.
  • The 200-foot sailing yacht has been devised to be the best performer in its category, and to deliver a sophisticated lifestyle on board
  • With the main living deck on one level, 80% of the yacht’s length is protected by a glass coachroof and hardtop. The immense skylight over this area gives an unobstructed view forward and upward to the sail and rig above.
  • The interior features a totally revolutionary general arrangement, allowing more space for the four guest cabins and owner’s suite, which are particularly quiet and generously proportioned.
  • The owner’s suite on the SY200 has direct, private access to the sea.
  • Initial concepts of the yacht’s decor are based on the application of pure, raw materials and will be completed by the owner’s interior designer of choice.
  • The SY200 has been designed to be under 500 gross tonnes, which minimises its weight and cost of maintenance.
