Vanuatu is open for business and commercial flights have resumed

23 MARCH 2015: Air Vanuatu has advised all domestic flights have returned to schedule.

“Communications with the outer islands have improved and in some cases have been fully restored,” Chief Executive Officer Joseph Laloyer said. “We are extremely grateful for the assistance of the Prime Minister’s Office and the NDMO for providing Satellite Phones to the outer islands, funded by the International Telecommunication Union and others and we’d also like to acknowledge the tireless work of Digicel and TVL, Unleco and VUI.”

Mr. Laloyer said the island of Espiritu Santo was open for business and whilst Efate and the southern islands would take some time to recover, the rebuilding work has so far been phenomenal. “We are asking passengers with existing bookings for the next couple of weeks to consider Santo as a holiday destination, rather than cancelling their trip altogether.”

Air Vanuatu announced last week fees would be waived for those wanting to delay or make changes to their holidays until 31 May 2015.

“It is imperative people continue to plan and book holidays to Vanuatu – it is a great way for people in Australia and New Zealand to help us get back on our feet, and have a truly wonderful holiday,” Mr. Laloyer said.
