Congratulations to the owners and crews of the Reichel/Pugh designed yachts competing in the 635 mile 2012 Newport to Bermuda Ocean Race.
George David’s R/P designed and McConaghy Boats built 90’ Maxi RAMBLER finished the biennial 2012 Newport to Bermuda Ocean Race in 39 hr 39m 18s setting a new course record.
Rambler sailed an average of 16knots and smashed the previous course record by clipping 14 hours off the previous best time set 10 years ago by Roy Disney’s fixed keel R/P designed and Goetz Boats built 75’ Transpac Sled Pyewacket.
Rambler has also taken 2nd in the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Division both in Class 10 and Overall under ORR scoring and 3rd in Class and Overall under IRC scoring.
Over the last decade Rambler has now broken seven ocean racing course records and previously, as Alfa Romeo, broke three course records.
A delighted George David has been quoted saying: “These were perfect conditions. The most exciting moment was when we hit 26 knots. I’m so pleased with our performance. We have reduced the record by 25% -
Not bad for a boat that is now 10 years old. This Rambler is the best boat I have ever owned!”
