Pittwater High School takes out 2012 Interschools Teams Racing Championship

Pittwater High School’s Sailing Team has won the 2012 NSW Interschool Teams Racing Championships sailed on Sydney Harbour. Their win has ended Cranbrook’s five-year winning streak.

Over three gruelling days and 128 races, with the final days racing held in a 20knot southerly, the teams demonstrated their skill, strength and stamina.

The semi finals saw Pittwater grab a 2-0 win against old rivals Cranbrook and Scotts College beat Riverview. Pittwater High School then defeated Scotts College 2-0 in the finals to take out the title in convincing style.

The impressive field of 11 school teams, saw some intense racing against the best sailors from some of Sydney’s most elite schools, including Scotts College, Cranbrook, Riverview, Aschem, Brigidine, Mater Maria, Abbotsleigh & Sydney High.

The win was a wonderful achievement for Pittwater High; which was one of only two public schools entered in this prestigious event.

It was emotional one for ex Pittwater High School teacher and Team Coach, Stan Walters, who has assisted the team with coaching over the last two school terms and whose grandson Harley is a team member.  Team manager Leisa Stranack; whose 2 sons are team members, was also overjoyed with the hard earned win.

Final Results:

1 Pittwater High School

2 Scotts College

3 Cranbrook

4 Riverview

5 Mater Maria

- Leisa Stranack
