New BioSok cleans bilges naturally

The new BioSok Bilge Maintenance System is an easy-to-use, completely non-toxic and environmentally sound means of capturing and biodegrading the oil and fuel that leaks in a boat bilge and often escapes into marina waters.

Unlike soaker pad products which only absorb the spilt oil and fuel, BioSok actually turns the contaminated water into clear, odour free water that is safe to discharge. Moreover, a soaker pad simply moves the problem from one point (your bilge) to another place (landfill!) and is messy and unpleasant to handle. BioSok converts the contaminant by a biological process, utilising processed bee’s wax in a linen bag that is simply placed in the bilge and left until the bag is empty.

The material contained in BIO-SOK consists of tiny spheres of treated wax, which contain nutrients. When a wax sphere comes in contact with spilled oil, it binds with the hydrocarbons and the nutrients in the sphere to help naturally occurring micro-organisms to flourish until they consume every droplet of oil.

Placed inside the bilge, the BIO-SOK begins to absorb the hydrocarbons, it reduces odour, and biodegrades the leaking oil. BIO-SOK will generally last a full boating season under most normal conditions.

When the bag is empty it can be disposed of safely and another put in it’s place.  One BIO-SOK will  generally last a full year depending on the load of diesel and oil to be processed.
