According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, a frantic search is being conducted off Port Macquarie for a man who went missing from his yacht overnight.
The man and his two sons are believed to have been sailing from Sydney to Brisbane when their boat began taking on water in bad weather off the NSW mid north coast. They headed to Port Macquarie, which has a notoriously difficult river bar that would have been made worse by the flooding rains that have drenched the interior in recent days.
After trying to reach Port Macquarie in the dark, the trio were forced to spend the night on a sandbar. Police said this morning, the man’s sons woke up and discovered their father missing.
The boys are now assisting emergency crews with a massive air and sea search, while the boat is being forensically examined.
