Farrier 22 tri sailaway for less than $50,000

New Zealand boat-builder Ian Farrier has released a sailaway price estimate for his long-awaited F-22 trailerable trimaran.

"I'm aiming to get the F-22 base sailaway price less than US$48,000, or at least 20 to 25 percent lower than any other comparable folding trimaran, for what is a much superior and more advanced boat," Ian said.

"But it also depends on how well the design is implemented (going well), where it is built, the volume (must be high), and provided large development costs can be avoided (also doing well here so far).

"The F-22 is intended to be a high-volume production boat, and it is hard to get good volume pricing until one actually has the volume.

"Even then, one still has to consider sources, currency rates at the time, and ability to deliver, so costing early is always a bit of a risk/gamble.

"Thus it is difficult to supply more detailed pricing. and particularly before we have the first boat out of the molds and built. However, I continue to stand by my target pricing."

The new model is showcased in the multihull feature in the June issue of Cruising Helmsman, out at newsagents nationally within the next few days.
