Brisbane to Keppel taking entries

Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is inviting owners and charterers of all eligible monohull yachts to enter the Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race starting at noon on Friday 3 August 2012.

Now in its sixth year, the race is the premier offshore yachting event for the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and continues to grow in popularity. This year the race organisers are hoping for 50 entrants at the start line.

In recent years the race has attracted up to 35 yachts including the high performance yacht Wild Oats XI and the super maxi Lahana.

"This is really the signature yacht race for Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Our aim is to make the race bigger and better every year as we continue to make our stamp on the offshore racing calendar,’ said the squadron’s commodore Greg Clarke.

The 348 nautical mile race will start just east of Green Island in Moreton Bay. The yachts will cruise along the shorelines of Fraser Island before crossing the Tropic of Capricorn to finish at Keppel Bay Marina.
