Australian Sailing June/July issue out now

The June/July issue of Australian Sailing magazine has some special features that will help all sailors go faster.

Perennial favourite, David Dellenbaugh, has compiled a 50 question quiz on strategy and tactics which challenges the reader to think strategically about a variety of race situations, and then make the right tactical decision.

A new feature is advanced sail trim tips from Quantum Sails expert, Dave Flynn. This will be a regular feature in the magazine, with the first article covering mainsail twist. Valuable advice is also contained in Tony Bull's Persistent Shift column, where he suggests getting back to basics, Andrew Verdon shows how to identify weaknesses to be worked on over winter and Will Oxley shows how to use traditional navigation skills in the electronic age.

For those who love sailing weeks, Bob Ross reports on the Lexus-Lincoln week and I covered Geographe Race Week, the major regatta week in Western Australia. While there I did three races in the new Viper 640 sportsboat and there's a full review and photographs of this exciting new class.

On the "people" front there's a great profile on Jono Neate, the World Contender Champion, which explains how his victory was achieved, and if you're thinking of trying solo or short-handed racing, Simon McGoldrick tells you all about the scene in Europe.

Finally, if your club is having trouble moving people from "learn to sail" to "racing", there are some words of advice from Mark Rasmussen, who has successfully bridged the gap down in Tasmania.
