An alternative way to become a multihull owner

Owning an oceangoing catamaran in the 12m (40’) range is a dream for most mortals, because of cost or time to build or both.

Certainly, buying a new turnkey catamaran is the easiest way to gain quick access to enjoyment, but who has $400,000 PLUS in these times? A used catamaran is probably the next best option, but again anything decent is $250,000 plus and there is always the risk of ‘what you are buying’ as with all used items.

For the very courageous, there is the option of building one's own catamaran from scratch at a very reduced cost. Apart from being a daunting task, usually accomplished part-time over many years and requiring a wide range of skills, there remains the problem of the vessel being an unknown quantity when selling. This then puts at risk the huge investment made in material and time. Apart from anything else, many of these projects become an end in themselves, robbing time that could be better spent sailing. I have witnessed many of these projects, if and when completed, sold due to changed circumstances.
However, there may be another way to actually have your cake and eat it too by acquiring a new vessel, built to survey, at a drastically reduced cost.

I believe I have it!

I am seeking serious, like-minded people who would be interested in independently joining together as a purchasing consortium when approaching a manufacturer. Several individuals could negotiate a way better deal than an isolated buyer. With that in view, I would welcome any interested party in joining a group of 3 (already committed buyers) to approach a manufacturer for their best price. I envisage a proposed entry price of $90,000 or less to secure the major superstructure (all composite material). The build time would be kept as low as a few months with minimal skills and experience as much of the hard work is completed at the factory.

Subsequently, boat furniture and fit out can be negotiated and chosen to suit each individual builder. Mast, rigging, sails, capstans, engines etc could be sourced and procured at extremely competitive prices due to the buying power of the consortium.

Please! Only reply if you are genuinely interested and willing to commit to the project. I am happy to coordinate each individual request and negotiate a deal with the manufacturer. Please call/email for a detailed description of the project including a complete list of costs involved to finish your boat.

PS. This is a private initiative and many thanks to ‘The Editor’ for their generosity in giving opportunity for readers to be informed through a press release.
