September issue out now – flying high, sailing fast and cruising inland

The September issue of Cruising Helmsman is taking a different course this month. While we have the same favourite stories we have added some interesting trips inland through Europe's canal system.

One story details the tall mast canal system available in France for yachts to visit some fascinating French countryside without having to leave their home. Another not-well-known canal system is in the Netherlands, a small country with an extensive myriad of canals available to cruise.

If you still hanker for the open water, we also visit the far west of Western Australia, spend a winter in Sicily and cruise the beautiful island of Corfu.

On the practical note we continue our series on what is involved in becoming live-aboard cruisers by looking at the expected costs of doing so.

One yacht owner decides to take the sensible path and converts her successful racing yacht into a comfortable cruiser. She divulges her top ten modifications.

While looking at racing, we have taken the velocity prediction programs used by most racing yachts and extracted the useful information cruisers can also glean from their yacht's polar plots.

To get hands on John Tylor details how he replaced his anchor winch in his continuing rejuvenation of his yacht.

Finally one cruiser looks at the growing prevalence of drones and how they can do so much more than take pretty pictures.
